Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our brand new FAQ’s series! Every week we’ll be adding a new answer to the famous questions we receive on the regular. After spending our lives immersed in the dance world we sometimes lose perspective of what it might be like for a brand new dance parent entering our world! To kick this off we figured the best place to start is at the very beginning of our offerings – Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet.
To start, Creative Movement is appropriate for dancers ages 3-5 and for Pre-Ballet is for dancers ages 4-6. But why is there an overlap!? What if my child is 4-1/2 – where should they start? Great Question!! One of the main differences between the two classes is if your child would do better in a more free-flowing style class versus a more structured style class.
Creative Movement is for the ‘leaf in the wind’ dancer where Pre-Ballet is better suited for dancers with a touch more focus and desire to learn a codified form of dance. Creative Movement has no dress code where Pre-Ballet does. Creative Movement dancers might be asked to dance how a cow moos and a tree shakes in the wind. Pre-Ballet dancers will be asked to remember what they’ve learned last week and will continue to build upon a set curriculum.
We realize the lines of maturity for this age group are quite blurred and sometimes even differ from week to week. What we want you to know is that we’re open to trying both classes with your dancer to make sure we have them in the right class for their current temperament. Our main goal at Open Door Studios is for our dancers to leave class both happy and filled with joy for dance 💚
Trust our instructors to get you where you want to go! Whether you’re a new student who needs additional training or you have an audition piece that needs cleaning our staff are here to help.
Our staff offers a wealth of knowledge in various specialties including but not limited to: ballet, pointe, partnering, variations, jazz, modern, tap, contemporary, adaptive dance, personal training, health coaching, rehabilitation, progressing ballet technique and more!
Privates through Open Door Studios are $80/hr across the board and booked independently by our instructors themselves. If you’re in need of private coaching please visit our instructors tab on our website or by following the link in our bio to begin that conversation. Please contact them through their provided email addresses!
A request for private coaching does not guarantee a commitment from our staff. Our instructors reserve the right to choose when and who they’ll work with during their time off. Generally it’s easier to book private lessons with our staff if you’re one of their current students; however, it’s not a requirement to submit a request.
